TE Mychal Rivera (6-4 240) of the College of the Canyons JC, CA met Monday night with USC recruiter Jeep Hunter and set an official visit with USC for January 15th. Rivera has known Hunter since he recruited him for Georgia Tech and the two have a good relationship. Rivera has serious interest in the Gamecocks because of how they deploy their tight end. He also plans to visit Kansas State and Utah State.

Hampton ready to make his announcement
By Phil Kornblut
Darlington DB Victor Hampton (5-10 175) is participating this week at the US Army All American Game in San Antonio. Hampton is playing cornerback and said Wednesday night he's had a good week thus far. "I'm doing real good," he said. "I'm competing with the receivers and shutting them down." He's also learning some things that will help him in college. "Anytime you go to a camp, you're going to pick up some new tips," Hampton said. Saturday afternoon, Hampton will be among the players who will announce their college decision. Hampton said he knows what his choice will be from among USC, North Carolina and Tennessee. "I'm going to have a hat in a bag and pull it out of the bag and surprise everyone," said Hampton, a one time Florida commitment. "I've picked the school where I was most comfortable, where it would be the best fit, where I liked the coaches, the players, the fans and the environment." Hampton has been favoring USC and indicated nothing has changed with his thinking.

Dukes a hot junior target
By Phil Kornblut
Junior DL Phillip Dukes (6-3 280) of Manning is heading towards double digit offers. According to his coach Robbie Briggs, Dukes has offers from Clemson, USC, Alabama, North Carolina, NC State, Maryland, Florida, Stanford and Duke. "He's a freak," Briggs said. "He's a worker and very coachable. He's physical and powerful. He just loves football. He'll play the three technique (inside tackle) at the next level." This past season Dukes had 87 tackles with 10 sacks and 22 tackles for loss. He also forced three fumbles and had one defensive touchdown. Miami defensive coordinator John Lovett will be at the school Wednesday to look at film on Dukes

DE Jadevion Clowney (6-6 240) of South Pointe has over 25 offers on his plate already as a junior. His offers include USC, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Michigan. Clowney named his top four. "I like USC, Florida, LSU, and Clemson," said Clowney. He says these are his favorites right now in no particular order. "I like the players at South Carolina," he said. "I like Florida because they know what it takes to win...same with Clemson. LSU I like because, ever since I was little, they've always been one of my favorite teams." Clowney says he will try to make junior days at each of these schools but has not made any actual plans to do so. "I'm sure I will try, but I don't know yet," he said. He will also try and make as many football camps as he can. Clowney says he does not have a favorite.

Walford confirms official to USC
By Eric Guimaraes
TE Clive Walford (6-6 222) of Belle Glade, FL confirmed today that he will take an official visit to USC this upcoming weekend. Walford is currently committed to Miami but is looking around. When asked how strong his commitment to Miami is, Walford said, "I don't know right now." Walford is a big fan of USC head coach Steve Spurrier and has said he likes the way Spurrier uses the tight end in his offense. Walford has offers from USC, Miami, Central Florida, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Purdue, Ole Miss, and Southern Miss. He says he is still committed to Miami.

DE Corey Simmons (6-5 230) of Atlanta is making an official visit to USC thru Saturday, and his former coach has encouraged him to make his commitment to the Gamecocks before leaving Columbia. "I told him he better," said Kenneth "Gus" Robinson, a former Gamecock linebacker. "This is an SEC school. It doesn't get any better." Simmons is the son of former NFL star Clyde Simmons who is with him on the visit. Simmons also plays tight end but Robinson feels his future is as a defensive lineman with his hand on the ground. "When he gets off the ball, he's pretty good," Robinson said. "He's bigger than his dad was coming out of high school so he's got a lot of room to grow. He runs well and has long arms. He does a good job getting his hands on you and getting leverage. He's been coached well." Simmons played in the Gwinnett County All Star Game last month. Robinson said he's also got offers from Samford and Western Carolina.
