Nashville's Music City Bowl is currently in the fourth year of a four year contract. This year's bowl game will pit the fifth pick from the SEC against the fourth pick from the ACC.
We expect the potential for this year's line-up to be announced this week.
The game, played on LP Field, will occur on December 27th at 7:30pm CST. Due to the expected shake-up that is expected among SEC teams this bowl season, this year's Music City Bowl will be an exciting event.
We had the opportunity to speak with Nashville Sports Council CEO Scott Ramsey regarding the upcoming Music City Bowl. According to Mr. Ramsey:
- The aim of the Music City Bowl is to select two teams that have solid fan bases ... that will also generate local excitement as well
- The end game is to sell tickets, fill up our city, and at the same time offer regional fans a close proximity to travel
- The two participating teams will share a combined payout of approximately 3.5 million dollars
- The Music City Bowl is in the fourth year of a four year contract with the SEC
Looking at the potential SEC teams that will be available, coupled with a rabid fan base, the Music City Bowl will be an excellent choice whether you are local to Nashville or traveling to the Music City. At this point, Florida-Alabama-Ole Miss-and-Auburn are spoken for. The most likely teams to call Nashville their bowl destination this year are the Tennessee Volunteers or the Kentucky Wildcats.
According to internet reports, the Kentucky Wildcats have received an invitation to play in Nashville again this season.
Many fans have found themselves confused by the method in which the bowl games select their teams. According to Mr. Ramsey, "We have the fifth selection from the SEC following the BCS selections ... and the fourth ACC selection". Note that the Music City Bowl will not be selecting the fifth best SEC team or the 4th best ACC team, but rather has the fifth and fourth selections.
Considering the log-jam that has occured in the SEC this season (six teams are unranked nationally and all sport 7-5 records), the Music City Bowl will have several viable options.
Ticket Prices for the Music City Bowl are Affordable While many SEC or ACC fans had difficulties when viewing their favorite team's regular season single-game tickets, the Music City tickets are very affordable. For example, a four pack of tickets are approximately $120 on the official website.
More Than Just a Game Whether this will be your first trip to the home of Country Music or your 100th trip, the Nashville area has much to offer. Alongside with the city of Nashville, the Nashville Sports Council has put together a bowl experience for your entire family to remember.
This year's schedule of events include: Franklin American Mortgage Coaches Luncheon on December 26th: interact with coaches and student athletes from the participating schools in a chalk talk session held at the world famous Wildhorse Saloon. This event begins at 11:30am, but come early as last year's event had over 1,000 in attendance.
MusicFest and Battle of the Bands on December 26th Presented by CMT: Come down to 2nd Street to enjoy a block party that you will never forget! On hand will be the pep bands and cheerleaders from the participating schools for a Battle of the Bands. This event is from 5-7pm.
Pre-Game Tailgate Party Presented by Comcast Spotlight: This invitation only event is held aboard the General Jackson and includes food and beverages. Tickets for this event can be obtained via Corporate Ticket Packages.
Music City Bowl Fan Zone: Held in South Endzone Area Lot R of LP Field, this fan event is not to be missed. Open to the general public, begins at 1:00pm and leads up to kick-off.
On top of all of these festivities, of course the city of Nashville offers many exciting opportunities for exploration.
