SEC Football Bowl Bids and the Log Jam

moneyWhat a mess the SEC is in.  With guaranteed bowl contracts in place, the bowl selections are going to come down to a single category:  money.  Yes, that is correct, your favorite team (who incidentally has the same over all record as a team they beat) may receive the golden shaft this bowl season ... all for money.

Do not be shocked to see several teams receive their bids based on whether or not they can sell their ticket allotment.

Don't believe me?  That is your right, but pull the wool out of your eyes for a moment to look at the log jam that is the SEC.  Alabama and Florida know within two cities where they are going.

The winner of the SEC Championship game on December 5th will play for the BCS Title.  The loser of the SEC Championship Game will play in the Sugar Bowl.  Outside of these two front runners, the bowl bid game selection is strictly a guessing game.

Breaking NewsTennessee Vols receive bid to the Capital One Bowl ... only one requirement:  former Vol Nu'Keese Richardson has to shoot a commercial spot asking "What's in your wallet?"  ... rimshot on that one ... I can not take credit for that one, Darrell told me he heard it on Tony Basilio's radio show last week.  For those in Opelikait was a joke, but feel free to run it all over the internet if you wish.

After Florida and Alabama, the next best over all record are the 9-3 LSU Tigers, Ole Miss (8-4), then six teams that are 7-5 (Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky from the East; Arkansas and Auburn from the West).  There are are a total of ten SEC bowl eligible teams.  There are nine guaranteed contract slots plus the Liberty Bowl.

We have a competitor that we typically take a shot at here and there and he knows who he is ... he runs the SEC blog that posts all of the links from the official media site (email us and we'll send you the link so you can cut out the middle man) ... for once, we agree with him partially.  You don't have to be a Little Mister to see the writing on the wall this season:  your team will play in a bowl that will be determined solely on relationship status and money.

Where do you think your favorite team is going bowling?  We will have a list of potential bowl bids later in the week ... Darrell has a virus and will be offline at least through Monday evening.
