SEC Football Power Poll Nov 9th

How does your SEC Power Poll shake out this week?  Who is number one, Florida or Alabama?

Once again, we rely on Chris from Simulated Gameday Experience to give us his one through twelve when it comes to the SEC.

  1. Alabama

Alabama still needs to fix the passing game – McElroy’s numbers were there, but the actual passes weren’t by and large.  On the plus side, it’s still the one of the best defenses and running games in the SEC, so there are worse fates.  Their 24-15 win over LSU is probably the second-best skin on the SEC wall (behind Florida’s 13-3 over, hey look at that, LSU).

  1. Florida

Vanderbilt has a remarkable ability to bring teams down to their level, which means Florida’s offense is back to hanging out off the rails again.  The good news is the defense is as good as it’s been all season, holding Vanderbilt to under 200 total yards and forcing a turnover.  Of course, Tebow still led the team in rushing attempts so there may still be some issues to work out.

  1. LSU

Well, at least we know LSU fits here now.  After struggling on offense against the two best defenses in the conference, LSU at least has shown enough on offense through the rest of the season that we’ll give them a little bit of credit.  As it stands, they’re almost here on default.

  1. Tennessee

If Tennessee was here last week, they might as well stick around here after straight-up throttling Memphis in a shortened 35-minute game.  Wait, it was a full game?  Better tell Lane and Monte Kiffin, since the Vols were rolling out guys who aren’t even on the depth chart by the end of it.

  1. Auburn

The nice part about cupcake games is that I get to slack off on writing about the games.  Yeah, Auburn rolled 1-AA Furman badly, which is what you’d expect.  You’d also expect 650+ yards of offense, but the nice part here about the win is Auburn only missed three passes all game.

  1. Ole Miss

Hey look, it’s another team that played a 1-AA team!  Northern Arizona at least put up a pretty good fight, further exacerbating the idea that Ole Miss just may not be very good.  It’s a statement against the rest of the conference right now that they come in here.

  1. Georgia

Speaking of teams that are off the rails, at least Georgia was able to beat an overmatched opponent.  The offense was on-track for most of the game, but of course, Georgia being Georgia, they still threw a pick and ran up 86 penalty yards.  On the plus side, Willie Martinez finally found a defense he can stop.

  1. Arkansas

Arkansas still lacks enough of a defense to warrant moving higher at this point, but they did at least beat up South Carolina on the scoreboard.  Arkansas’s got a decent shot at bowl eligibility now, as they should be able to beat one of either Troy or Mississippi State, if not both.

  1. South Carolina

It must be November, because South Carolina’s hit the skids.  Once again, South Carolina’s lack of a rushing offense is causing some severe issues, and since they ran up against a powerful Arkansas offense, the D couldn’t bail them out this time.

  1. Mississippi State

The Bulldogs get a bye week, so they just kind of hang out.

  1. Kentucky

With more 1-AA fodder, Kentucky did what you’d expect with a comfortable win.  Want to read something into this?  Too bad.

  1. Vanderbilt

At least Vanderbilt ….um …had a balanced offense? Really, it was a nasty effort against Florida, which you’d expect.  Let’s give some credit to the defense for keeping Florida mostly in check, and let’s pillory the offense for not doing anything at all.  Yeah, that sounds fun.
