Updated Bowl Scenarios

sec bowl gamesAs you are reading this, there are still several backroom deals being cut ... don't you just love college bowl season?

Of course, people are constantly adjusting their college bowl projections .... here are our original picks that were made on November 16th ... over two weeks ago.

Once LSU has been released from BCS consideration, expect the dam to break and tons of announcements to be forth coming ... at least we are not (likely) going to have to wait until next week as we would have if Bama and Florida both were not undefeated.

Teams highlighted in red are PROJECTIONS .... teams highlighted in blue are CONFIRMED ... teams highlighted in green are INTERNET RUMORS.  Easy enough to follow?

BCS Title Game:  While many sites are throwing out the safe pick of "Alabama/Florida winner" in this spot ... we do not believe in making the 'safe' pick, we would rather be 120% wrong than unwilling to even try ... we are going with the preseason prediction that we made in JULY .... Florida faces Texas

Sugar BowlAlabama vs take your pick ... TCU was our original pick, but as long as the Texas Longhorns survive their title game, TCU will likely go elsewhere ... at least that is what we are hearing through the grapevine.  Maybe a Bama/Cincy or Boise State match up?  You will have to join the podcast tomorrow night to find out.

Capital One Bowl:  LSU Tigers vs Penn State or Iowa.

Cotton Bowl:  Ole Miss vs Oklahoma State.

Outback Bowl:  Auburn Tigers vs Wisconsin Badgers

Chik-fil-A Peach Bowl:  Tennessee Volunteers vs Virginia Tech Hokies

Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl:  Kentucky Wildcats vs ACC (North Carolina?)

Independence Bowl:  Georgia Bulldogs vs Big XII (Missouri?)

PapaJohns.com Bowl:  South Carolina vs Big East (South Florida?)

Liberty Bowl:  Arkansas Razorbacks vs C-USA (East Carolina?)

Razorbacks seem to be Liberty Bowl bound: http://www.wholehogsports.com/...razorbacks

How can the cotton and outback bowls pick before the capital one bowl?? Couldn't the capital one bowl take Ole Miss if they wanted?? For that matter, how can any of the bowls pick before the BCS games are decided?? I understand that it is probably the case that the loser of the sec title game will be in the sugar bowl, but that's not a definite. How can the Outback bowl take Auburn?? I thought the outback bowl had to pick an easter division team unless there was a western team they wanted that was ranked higher than any remaining eastern teams. Is auburn ranked in some poll that I'm not aware of?
They can select before the Cap One

because the Capital One Bowl must take the third best team (in this year's scenario) ... once you clear the Cap One, the other bowls are free to make selections rather than following a specific pecking order (4th best, 5th best, etc). For example, once the BCS selections are made, the Music City Bowl has the fifth selection ... doesn't have to be the 5th best, 6th best, etc team... they simply select in that spot (kind of like a drafting order).

There has been some speculation that the SEC will work in a specific pecking order as the bowl contracts expire, butn we will have to wait to see if that one happens
that's not exactly correct

That's not exactly how it works according to this article tonyadams.

I also checked on wikipedia and it pretty much describes it this way as well.

I think this is what Tony meant:
Bama and UF are both guaranteed BCS Bowls ... Capital One MUST take the team with the next best record ... once you get past the Cap One ... contractually, NONE of the bowls are required to take team #4, team #5, etc ... they can pretty much take who they want ... they do have guide lines to go by, but with nearly everyone at 7-5 and unranked ... the bowls can pretty much take who they want as long as they negotiate the contract and keep the conference match ups ... I agree, it's messed up and something needs to be done, but on paper, the bowls are well within their rights ... on top of all of that, several of the bowl's contracts with the SEC are coming due after this year ... changes will be made I am sure, but honestly, the direction the changes are likely to go will be a bad thing for the league and the fans both IMHO.
