The Kentucky Wildcats take down the NC Tarheels 68-66 on John Wall's free throws with 4.3 seconds remaining.
While most of the SEC's eyes were on Atlanta for the SEC Football Championship, the fifth ranked Kentucky Wildcats played a rude host to tenth ranked North Carolina in Lexington in front of Rupp Arena's largest ever crowd.
For UK fans, anticpation of this season has ran from the curious to the outrageous. With John Calipari receiving his first signature win as the head coach of the Wildcats, look for expectations to rise through the roof.
Patrick Patterson played nearly flawless ball scoring 19 points in 37 minutes of journeyman play. The hero of the game was by far Wall. Wall, 16 points, helped lead Kentucky in the first half (19 point lead) only to spend almost 20 arduous minutes in the training room receiving fluids and Gatorade to recover from cramps. With Wall out of the game, the double-digit lead evaporated. Thankfully, for Wildcats fans, Wall returned to the game and heroically won it in the waning moments.
The Tarheels were led by Deon Thompson's 14 points and Will Graves' 13 points.
The Wildcats were plagued by 21 turnovers in the game.
