Alabama Crimson Tide 32 Florida Gators 13
In what was billed as a game for the ages, the Crimson Tide rolled over the Florida Gators, stepped on their faces, and twisted. From gun to gun, this game was never in question. The Gators entered the SEC Championship Game as five point favorites and are going home spanked.
Greg McElroy, widely considered to be Alabama's primary question mark turned the out to be an exclamation point. McElroy, 12-for18 for 239 yards and a touchdown ... the Alabama quarterback looked as if he could do no wrong.
When McElroy was not beating the Gators with his arm and legs, Mark Ingram was piling up yardage and first downs. Ingram, rushed 28 times for 113 yards and three touchdowns. Trent Richardson added 80 yards on just 11 carries in a back-up roll.
For the game, the Crimson Tide rolled up 251 rushing yards on 53 carries.
Coming into the game, many expected Florida to be able to handle the vaunted Alabama defense ... it never materialized. The Tide defense was too quick and too strong for the Gator offensive line to handle.
From this game, two stats immediately jump out: Alabama was 11-for15 on third down attempts (73%) Florida ran the ball 14 times for 88 yards
When you convert almost 3/4's of your third down attempts, you will win the game. On the flip side, when Florida has only ran the ball 14 times for the entire game, they will lose the game.
Congratulations to the Alabama Crimson Tide, you are the 2009 SEC Champions. Go to Pasadena & bring the title back to the SEC.
